Governor Greg Abbott met with U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon to discuss recent developments in Texas education policy during the 89th legislative session.
Governor Abbott outlined several legislative achievements, emphasizing increased opportunities for parents, students, and educators in Texas. He pointed to $8.5 billion in new funding allocated to public education and a $3.5 billion investment dedicated to teacher pay raises. He also referenced the enactment of what he described as the nation’s largest day-one school choice program, intended to provide families more options regarding their children’s education.
During their discussion, Secretary McMahon shared her observations from a visit to Alpha School’s Austin campus, where she spoke with graduates now enrolled in college. She highlighted how Texas schools are incorporating artificial intelligence into classrooms to help students develop better questioning skills and deepen their understanding of educational content.
“Texas parents, students, and educators now have more opportunities to reach their full potential,” Governor Abbott said during the meeting.
Additional photos from the meeting are expected to be made available at a later date.
