Governor Greg Abbott has expanded the agenda for Texas Legislature’s Special Session #2. In a message sent to lawmakers, Abbott added new items focused on public safety and election security.

The expanded agenda now includes legislation aimed at prohibiting same day voter registration in Texas. Additionally, it covers measures that would authorize contracts with sheriffs and constables for law enforcement services. There is also a focus on legislation related to the appropriation or transfer of funds to or from law enforcement agencies.

“Legislation to prohibit same day voter registration in Texas,” reads the governor’s statement. Another agenda item includes, “Legislation authorizing contracts with sheriffs and constables for the provision of law enforcement services and legislation relating to the appropriation or transfer of funds to or from a law enforcement agency.”

These additions come as state officials continue discussions about how best to address public safety needs and maintain secure elections.
