Austin-based Brohn Homes has entered the Houston market through the acquisition of HistoryMaker Homes’ Houston division. The transaction, which closed on December 12, was confirmed by Greg Barber, Chief Operating Officer at Brohn Homes, to the Houston Business Journal. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The purchase provides Brohn with an immediate presence in Greater Houston. The company inherits a 30-person local team led by Roderick Flint and takes over construction projects in 13 master-planned communities. These include Sunterra in Katy, Attwater near Waller, Fulshear Lakes in Fort Bend County, Sierra Vista in Iowa Colony, and Azalea in Pattison.
HistoryMaker Homes had been active in Houston since 2016. Last year, it closed on 247 homes and started construction on another 238 units, ranking it as the 32nd largest builder by volume in the area. Following this sale, HistoryMaker will concentrate its efforts on Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio. CEO Nelson Mitchell described the decision as a result of shared values between the two companies: “The companies’ shared values made the move a ‘natural alignment.’”
Brohn Homes has operated out of Austin since its founding in 2003 and was acquired by Clayton Properties Group—a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary—in 2018. Earlier this year, Brohn expanded into San Antonio.
The acquisition increases Brohn’s total Texas workforce from around 80 employees to approximately 110. Looking ahead, Brohn aims to build up to 1,000 homes per year in Houston within five years.
Houston remains a competitive housing market with strong activity despite cooling from pandemic highs. National homebuilders and regional players continue to compete for land and buyers across the region.
