Corgan, a Dallas-based architecture firm, has acquired New York City’s Cooper Robertson to strengthen its presence on the East Coast. The acquisition was finalized on October 31, marking Corgan’s second expansion in the region this year after it bought Boston’s Dyer Brown & Associates in August. Details of the financial arrangement were not disclosed.
The Cooper Robertson team of 20 will join Corgan’s workforce of approximately 1,200 employees and will continue to operate from their current office in New York’s Financial District. Founded in 1938, Corgan is known for designing headquarters for major corporations such as Toyota, State Farm, and 7-Eleven. In recent years, it has also worked on hospitals and data centers. The firm occupies about 110,000 square feet at The Luminary in Dallas’ West End and reported $510.5 million in revenue last year, with most of it generated locally.
Cooper Robertson has played a significant role in shaping New York City’s cultural and urban spaces, having worked on projects like the New Museum, Studio Museum in Harlem, Battery Park City master plan, and Hudson Yards planning.
According to Corgan CEO Scott Ruch: “The acquisition reinforces the firm’s commitment to ‘design excellence across more typologies.’” Cooper Robertson partner Mike Aziz described the merger as “a powerful alignment of design values and vision,” noting Corgan’s research-driven approach combined with Cooper Robertson’s expertise in large-scale planning and public architecture.
Corgan now operates offices in Dallas, Boston, New York, Washington D.C., as well as international locations including the U.K., Dublin, and Singapore. This move further establishes Corgan as one of the largest privately held American design firms with a broad geographic reach.
