One of the most expensive homes in Dallas has changed hands after nearly $5 million in price reductions. Computer engineer and entrepreneur Mark Haidar purchased the waterfront property at 4231 West Lawther Drive this summer for $10.9 million, according to county records. The seller, Darren Phillips, initially listed the White Rock Lake home for $15.8 million in January 2023 and reduced the price several times before it sold.

The home’s closest competitor is Mount Vernon, a well-known estate and former residence of H.L. Hunt located at 4009 West Lawther Drive. This property, a replica of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, has also experienced fluctuating prices between $30 million and $15 million since 2012 under the same ownership.

Mark Haidar is known for co-founding technology companies including Dialexa, Vinli, Robin, and Rosy. He holds multiple patents and was born Mahmoud Haidar to Lebanese refugee parents in Kuwait. In 2019, he was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar by a program associated with the presidential centers of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Lyndon B. Johnson. Former President George W. Bush painted Haidar’s portrait for his book “Out of Many, One: Portraits of America’s Immigrants.”

In recent years, Texas’ ultra-luxury real estate market has seen an increase in relistings and more frequent price reductions as higher-end homes have struggled to sell.

The main house at 4231 West Lawther Drive features three stories with five bedrooms and eight bathrooms as well as a 2,700-square-foot basement that includes two wine cellars. The property spans nearly four acres and offers amenities such as an eight-car garage, horse stables, guest house, and cabana overlooking White Rock Lake near Downtown Dallas.

Mark Godson from Compass Real Estate represented the listing when it sold; Frada Sandler from Dave Perry Miller previously represented the seller when it was Texas’ most expensive listing in 2023.
