First Lady Cecilia Abbott has announced that the Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation (GRACE) initiative will host its sixth annual Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking from January 5 to January 11, 2025. The event, which coincides with Human Trafficking Prevention Month, is a statewide interfaith effort aimed at encouraging the faith-based community to unite in prayer, learn about human trafficking, and find ways to prevent exploitation and support survivors.
“Nothing is stronger than Texans standing together through prayer and action,” said First Lady Abbott. “During this week of prayer, I encourage everyone to take a moment and join GRACE in its efforts to protect the vulnerable and stand against exploitation. Together, we can bring the support, healing, and justice that victims of human trafficking deserve.”
The announcement includes video messages from First Lady Cecilia Abbott and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Commissioner Audrey O’Neill inviting Texans to participate in the Week of Prayer. DFPS Director of Human Trafficking Blanca Lance also introduced resources for Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month.
Throughout the week, daily prayer intentions focus on various aspects such as exposing exploiters, supporting vulnerable individuals, raising awareness about signs of trafficking in communities, advocating for trauma-informed investigations, healing for survivors, supporting those involved in the justice system, ensuring safety for current victims, and personal reflection on actions to prevent trafficking.
The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott leads initiatives related to child sex trafficking prevention as part of broader community-focused efforts across Texas. These initiatives are part of Governor Abbott’s work since his election in 2014 as head of the executive office for state government. The office operates out of Austin at the State Insurance Building and supports a range of priorities including border security efforts like Operation Lone Star and economic development programs. More information about these initiatives can be found on the official website.
The Office also collaborates with various organizations on community projects throughout Texas while maintaining a focus on job creation, education enhancement, individual liberties protection, parental empowerment in schooling decisions, and southern border security.
