Union members from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida convened in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference organized by the IAM Florida State Council. The event brought together both active members and retirees, who met with state representatives and senators to advocate for labor rights, higher wages, and protections for pensions and Social Security.
During the conference, union leaders and activists highlighted their opposition to proposed legislation that could undermine collective bargaining rights and impact the financial security of workers. They stressed the need to defend these rights as essential to maintaining stability for working people.
The participants aimed to represent machinists throughout Florida, including those working at the Kennedy Space Center, South Florida, and the Panhandle. Their objective was to influence policy decisions that affect union workers’ quality of life and prepare for upcoming political challenges ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
