Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Film Commission have announced a Film Friendly Texas Workshop scheduled for Thursday, October 16, in Odessa. The event is intended for communities throughout Texas interested in becoming Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities, which can support local job creation and economic growth.

“Texas’ growing media production industry supports local jobs and creates revenue in communities across our great state,” Governor Abbott said. “The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract new investments in media production, and create high-paying jobs for Texans. I invite all Texas communities to attend this workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community.”

The workshop will be cohosted by the Texas Film Commission and Discover Odessa. It will include professional development sessions such as “How to Become a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community.” Attendance at one of these workshops is required for certification.

City or county government employees, as well as those from convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, or local economic development corporations who will serve as the designated liaison for film-friendly activities are encouraged to participate.

The event will take place at the Holiday Inn Odessa on 5275 E 42nd Street from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with registration beginning at 8:00 AM. Additional information about registration is available at gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_workshops.

Since its launch in 2007, the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community program has grown to include over 200 certified communities that aim to expand media production industries in the state. More details about the program can be found at gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview.

The Texas Film Commission operates within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office and has promoted media production opportunities—including film, television, animation, video games, and more—for more than five decades.
