Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John E. Burt as the Jasper County Criminal District Attorney. Burt’s term will run until December 31, 2026.
Burt is currently the 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Jasper County. His previous experience includes serving as an assistant criminal district attorney in Newton County and working in private legal practice. He has also held administrative positions in education, including assistant superintendent and superintendent of Buna Independent School District (ISD). Additionally, Burt was president of the Buna ISD School Board.
He is a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association. Burt earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University, as well as a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
