This week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced several appointments to state boards and committees. The selections include individuals who will serve in various roles across economic development, insurance, small business assistance, agriculture finance, housing, higher education, pharmaceuticals, and affordable housing.
For the Aerospace and Aviation Advisory Committee, Col. Omar A. Perea was appointed for a term ending September 1, 2027. This committee supports efforts to recruit and retain aerospace and aviation jobs in Texas.
Amanda Crawford was named Commissioner of Insurance with a term set to expire on February 1, 2027.
The Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force saw the reappointment of Eduardo Contreras, Lisa Fullerton, and Omar Veliz through June 14, 2027. This task force advises state leadership on issues related to small businesses.
To the Texas Agriculture Finance Authority, Nelda Barrera, Colby McClendon, and Scott Frazier were appointed for terms ending January 1, 2027. Zachary Davis, Justin Tucker, and Tommy Henderson were also appointed for terms ending January 1, 2028. The authority provides financial support for expanding agricultural production and marketing in Texas.
Kenny Marchant and Ajay Thomas were reappointed to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for terms expiring January 1, 2031.
Appointments to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board include Darryl Heath and Colt McCoy as new members and Ashlie Thomas as a returning member; their terms run until August 31, 2031. The board coordinates leadership across higher education institutions in the state.
Jason LaFond was appointed to the Texas Pharmaceutical Initiative Governing Board until February 1, 2027. This board is responsible for developing cost-effective solutions for public employee drug procurement.
For the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board of Directors, Lemuel Williams Jr. was named chair while David Lewis was appointed as a new member and Valerie Vargas Cardenas was reappointed; all will serve until February 1, 2031.
