Governor Greg Abbott participated in a check presentation event for families in the Leander area who were affected by the July 4th floods. The funds distributed come from the “Strait to the Heart” benefit concert, which was held earlier this summer and hosted by musician George Strait and Estancia Estates Founder Tom Cusick. The concert raised over $6 million to support Texans impacted by flooding.
This marks the third time Governor Abbott has attended such an event to present financial assistance directly to those whose primary homes were damaged or destroyed.
“We know you’ve been challenged in extraordinary ways,” said Governor Abbott. “We want to be able to be a part of the process, not just now but in an ongoing way, to help you respond to those challenges. The financial assistance you leave with today will help you deal with the devastation left behind by the flooding. Our hope is that this check will assist you all in a meaningful way in the rebuilding process.”
Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd joined Governor Abbott at the event.
Last month, Governor Abbott also visited Leander to announce that Cow Creek bridge, which had been destroyed during the July 4th floods, had reopened.
Photos from today’s event are expected to be made available soon.
