Texas Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed the disaster proclamation for fire weather conditions that began on August 10, 2025. The proclamation was issued after the Texas Division of Emergency Management confirmed ongoing elevated fire risks in certain counties across the state.
Governor Abbott declared a disaster in more than 200 counties, citing an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property due to increased fire weather conditions. He stated: “I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer…and Zavala Counties.”
The order authorizes the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to address this emergency. It also suspends regulatory statutes or rules that might hinder necessary actions during the response effort, with written approval required from the Office of the Governor. In addition, it allows suspension of contracting or procurement regulations if these would impede agencies’ emergency responses needed to protect life or property.
Copies of the updated proclamation will be filed with relevant authorities as required by law.
Governor Abbott signed and dated the order in Austin on January 8, 2026. Deputy Secretary of State Dave Nelson attested to the document.
