Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed a disaster proclamation for fire weather conditions affecting numerous Texas counties. The original proclamation was issued on August 10, 2025, and has been updated in response to ongoing threats.
According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management, increased fire weather conditions continue to pose risks in several areas. The renewed declaration covers more than 200 counties across the state.
In the proclamation, Governor Abbott stated: “I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer, Armstrong…and Zavala Counties.”
The order authorizes all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to address the disaster. It also allows for the suspension of certain regulatory statutes or rules that could hinder emergency response efforts. “Any regulatory statute prescribing the procedures for conduct of state business or any order or rule of a state agency that would in any way prevent, hinder, or delay necessary action in coping with this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval of the Office of the Governor,” Abbott said.
Further suspensions are authorized if contracting or procurement regulations impede agencies’ ability to protect life or property during this period.
Copies of the proclamation will be filed with relevant authorities as required by law.
“IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto signed my name and have officially caused the Seal of State to be affixed at my office in the City of Austin, Texas, this the 9th day of December, 2025,” Abbott concluded.
