The Houston Rockets are preparing to invest nearly $25 million in a comprehensive renovation of all suites at the Toyota Center. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project is estimated at $24.6 million. Ryan Walsh, CEO of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority, confirmed these plans to the Houston Business Journal.
The Rockets will finance the entire project for their arena located at 1510 Polk Street. Construction is slated to start in April 2026 and finish by October 2027, though such timelines may change as work progresses.
The focus on premium spaces like corporate suites reflects a trend among professional sports teams aiming to attract sponsors and affluent fans. Upgrading high-end hospitality areas helps keep older arenas competitive with newer venues.
This suite renovation continues a series of team-funded improvements at Toyota Center. The Rockets recently began a $10.5 million project to replace all 17,000 bowl seats with new black sports-weave material, moving away from the arena’s traditional red color scheme but maintaining its capacity. That upgrade should be finished by July 2026.
Other completed projects include a $7.5 million roof replacement and a $22 million installation of new LED ribbon boards along with a center-hung scoreboard introduced for the 2024 season. The updated scoreboard increased LED surface area by 84 percent and added four underbelly screens, enhancing the venue’s technological capabilities.
Additional changes include the introduction of the Sire Spirits Social Club during the 2022-23 season, reflecting an industry-wide shift toward more experiential and branded areas within sports facilities.
Ryan Walsh stated: “The Rockets will cover the full cost of the work at 1510 Polk Street.”
