The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is encouraging its members and allies to participate in the 2026 AFL-CIO Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil & Human Rights Conference, scheduled for January 15-18, 2026, in Baltimore.

The event will take place at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor. Organizers recommend early booking due to limited hotel availability and note that a special rate of $219 per night has been arranged for attendees.

This year’s conference theme is “Honoring Our History – Fighting for Our Future.” According to organizers, the theme reflects the ongoing connection between the labor movement and civil rights advocacy. The conference aims to serve as a platform for dialogue and action on issues where labor rights intersect with civil and human rights.

Attendees will have opportunities to join discussions led by experts on topics such as collective bargaining rights, voting rights, threats to democracy, and economic justice. The agenda includes workshops and breakout sessions designed to equip participants with practical tools for organizing within their communities and workplaces.

AFL-CIO recently named Alex Rias as its new Director of Civil, Human, and Women’s Rights. He will oversee this annual conference dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.

Organizers highlight that “this is an opportunity to sharpen skills, build alliances, and leave ready to drive change.” Both rank-and-file union members and leaders are encouraged to attend.

Conference programming begins on Thursday afternoon, January 15. Limited accommodations are available for those arriving earlier on January 14.
