IAM Local 914 recently held the Gift of Justice Winter Wonderland Black Tie Gala, an event that brought together union members, their families, community partners, and leaders to recognize individuals advancing justice, equity, and dignity. The gala was organized by the IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee.

During the evening, guests donated toys that were distributed to two local nonprofit organizations: New Hope Village for Veterans and Parents Engaging Parents. Nearly 500 children received gifts as a result of these contributions. Both nonprofits provide support and services to veterans, parents, and families in need within the community.

IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen accepted an award at the event. “I am deeply honored to accept this award,” said Johnsen. “Protecting the rights of transportation workers is at the heart of the labor movement—and it is a human rights issue we must never stop fighting for.”

IAM Union International President Brian Bryant also spoke on the importance of solidarity in labor efforts. “Solidarity is the foundation of the labor movement, and this recognition reinforces our commitment to fight for dignity, fairness, and justice for all workers,” said Bryant.

Awards were given throughout the night to leaders recognized for their advocacy. The Beacon of Solidarity Award went to IAM International President Brian Bryant. General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes received the Trailblazer Award. The Guardian of Transportation Workers Award was presented to Richie Johnsen, while IAM Human Rights Director Nicole Fears received the Champion of Human Rights Award.

Cervantes acknowledged her colleagues upon receiving her award: “I accept this award on behalf of the union members whose dedication, grit, and unity continue to break barriers and open doors for generations of workers to come.”

Donyea Hoffman, Chair of IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee, emphasized community involvement: “I am proud to help organize opportunities for our members to gather and give back,” Hoffman said. “Our union stands for more than workers’ rights—we stand for strong, thriving communities, and this event lets us put that commitment into action.”
