IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen recently visited classes at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3). The visit focused on supporting education, organizing efforts, and developing future labor leaders.
The union leaders participated in Organizing I classes offered in both Spanish and English, as well as the Young Workers Leadership Program. Attendees included students from across North America who came to W3 to improve their skills and increase their involvement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
Dora Cervantes emphasized the significance of providing organizing education in Spanish. “Her visit amplified the IAM’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, education, and empowering members at every level of the union,” according to the statement.
Richie Johnsen met with organizers and young workers during his visit. He recognized their dedication and enthusiasm despite being close to the holiday season.
Participants in the Young Workers program noted that these visits reinforced their role within the labor movement and confirmed their place within union leadership discussions.
