The City of League City has received the Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community designation from Travel Texas, following completion of a certification process. This recognition highlights the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau’s efforts to promote tourism as a driver for economic growth, job creation, and increased visitation both locally and statewide.

Governor Greg Abbott commented on the importance of tourism to Texas’ economy. “Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies,” said Governor Abbott. “Travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. I congratulate the City of League City and the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau on earning this designation. All Texas communities are encouraged to apply to become a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community to further grow local tourism and jobs across our great state.”

League City now holds both Music Friendly Texas and Tourism Friendly Texas certifications.

Representative Greg Bonnen noted, “This recognition is a testament to the vision, hard work, and commitment of our local leaders and tourism partners. It not only highlights League City’s unique charm and vibrant offerings, but also strengthens our local economy, supports small businesses, and creates opportunities for continued growth across our region. I’m proud to represent a community that continues to invest in its future and showcase all that makes it a great place to live, work, and visit.”

Stephanie Polk, Manager of the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau, stated: “We are thrilled to be recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. This designation highlights the passion and collaboration within our community to create an exceptional visitor experience. We’ve seen tremendous growth in tourism across our region, and League City is perfectly positioned to be a natural hub for exploration and hospitality. League City’s historic downtown, growing art and music scenes, boutique shopping, and year-round calendar of events contribute to our growth as a destination.”

The program is available for local governments or non-profit organizations leading tourism promotion efforts in their communities. Certification offers benefits such as building partnerships vital for tourism development; educating leaders about tourism’s role in the state; prioritizing strategies driven by local needs; and accessing resources from Travel Texas along with other state government programs supporting communities as well as the travel industry. More information about this program can be found at gov.texas.gov/tourism-friendly-texas.

Travel Texas operates within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office with a mission focused on marketing Texas as a top travel destination outside the state—aiming to bring more non-Texan visitors into Texas while generating revenue for local communities.
