The Pennsylvania State Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently held its 2025 conference, where union leaders and delegates discussed key issues affecting their members.

President Rich Howell provided a detailed report from the event, which included updates on legislative matters, labor rights, and ongoing projects within the state. Among the speakers was IAM Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, who addressed the current political environment in Washington, D.C., emphasizing its influence on union members. Addeo stated the importance of defending union rights and not allowing voices to be silenced.

Richie Johnsen, General Vice President for IAM Air Transport Territory, informed attendees that mechanics in his sector—particularly those at American Airlines—are now earning over $70 an hour. David Sullivan, General Vice President for IAM Eastern Territory, also spoke at the conference. He highlighted efforts by the organization to stand up for members’ interests against challenges posed by some policymakers in Washington.

Delegates at the conference overwhelmingly endorsed Janelle Stelson as a pro-labor candidate for Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 10th district. The event also featured discussions on legal matters related to unions, workplace safety standards under OSHA, strategies against anti-union campaigns, and involvement in community projects.

The report concluded with a call to action urging members to mobilize support for pro-labor candidates and Supreme Court judges in Pennsylvania’s upcoming election.
