Rex Glendenning, a well-known land broker in North Texas, is planning to relocate the headquarters of Rex Real Estate from Frisco to Celina. The proposed new office will be a mass timber building between 40,000 and 60,000 square feet. Glendenning expects his company to use about one quarter of the space and lease out the remainder. He aims to begin construction next fall, with an estimated build time of 18 months.

Two potential locations are being considered for the new headquarters. One is King Place, a 600-acre mixed-use development north of Glendenning Parkway. This site already has $40 million in infrastructure and connects to the Dallas North Tollway extension, which is expected to be completed in 2027. The other possible site is Shawnee Trail, a large-scale project under construction that will include Celina’s first Walmart Supercenter.

Glendenning’s connection to Celina dates back to the 1880s, with his family still maintaining longhorn cattle on land designated for King Place. “What the Bass family was to downtown Fort Worth, what the Carpenter family was to Los Colinas, and what the Trammell Crow family was to Dallas, the Glendennings are that for Celina,” said Matthew Kiran, an agent at Rex Real Estate.

While Glendenning indicated he prefers King Place as a location, he said he is waiting for completion of infrastructure projects like the 360 Tollway extension and for suitable partners before starting vertical construction. He believes that King Place could attract major corporate tenants similar to how Westlake drew Charles Schwab and Fidelity Investments. Last year, Celina Mayor Ryan Tubbs described King Place as a symbol of the city’s future and linked its growth prospects with Glendenning’s vision.

Rex Real Estate has operated out of Preston Road in Frisco for almost twenty years.
