A mansion in Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood, once associated with a major political scandal in Texas, has been sold after being listed for $16 million. According to Harris County records, steel magnate Daniel Benditz sold the property at 2307 River Oaks Boulevard to a trust managed by wealth manager James Kull.
The home was listed at approximately $1,400 per square foot, placing it among the most expensive listings in Texas in June as reported by the Houston Association of Realtors. The final sale price was not disclosed, but the listing price indicates a significant profit for Benditz, who purchased the 11,200-square-foot property about ten years ago with a $3.5 million loan when it was asking $7.9 million.
Built in 1952, the house features traditional European architecture with an ornate front drive and a balustraded stone-and-stucco exterior. The six-bedroom, ten-bathroom residence sits on 0.8 acres and includes amenities such as a guest suite, wine room, gym with health area, and steam room.
Until 1984, the mansion belonged to Frank Sharp, a real estate developer known for creating Oak Forest and Sharpstown—two significant residential developments in Houston. Sharp was convicted in connection with a stock fraud scheme that implicated several prominent Texas politicians during the 1970s.
River Oaks is recognized for its luxury real estate market. The area frequently hosts some of Houston’s top home listings and sales. Last year’s most expensive home sale in Texas occurred just one mile away at 3630 Willowick Road. In 2024, River Oaks and Memorial were the only two neighborhoods featured among Houston’s eleven highest-priced listings.
