Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO), together with the City of San Augustine and San Augustine Main Street, will hold a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, September 29. The event will be available both virtually and in person at the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce.

“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in San Augustine, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”

Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will participate in the workshop to explain what it means to become a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community and discuss its benefits. She will also answer questions from attendees.

The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was launched by TMO in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind in the United States. It aims to help cities foster music industry growth by connecting them through a statewide network. Certification signals to industry professionals that a community is committed to supporting music-related development.

The upcoming workshop marks the initial step for San Augustine toward certification. If successful, San Augustine would join more than 85 other cities across Texas that have already received this designation.

Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to attend either online or at the physical location: 611 W. Columbia Street, San Augustine, TX 75972. Additional information about joining virtually can be found at bit.ly/46GtgV3.

For questions regarding the event, contact Shelby Curtis, Main Street Manager for the City of San Augustine.
