Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) applications. The extension relates to severe flooding that took place over the Fourth of July weekend. Those who may be eligible now have until September 29, 2025, to apply for this assistance.

“Texans who qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance will now have until September 29 to apply,” said Governor Abbott. “By extending the Disaster Unemployment Assistance deadline, more hardworking Texans will have the resources and support they need to rebuild. Texas remains resolute in support of these communities as they work to heal and recover.”

The Presidential Disaster Declaration covers workers and self-employed individuals in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties. Those unable to work due to storm and flood damage may be eligible for DUA benefits.

Affected individuals can apply online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631. All applications must be submitted by September 29, 2025.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is available for those who have exhausted regular unemployment benefits or do not qualify for them; were working or scheduled to begin work in the disaster area; cannot work because of physical damage from the disaster; lost their primary source of income due to the disaster; are unable to work because of injury from the disaster; became a household’s main provider after a death caused by the disaster; or cannot reach their workplace because travel routes are blocked by disaster effects.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management continues urging residents and business owners to report property damage using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). This helps emergency officials determine eligibility for federal aid such as DUA.
