The U.S. Census Bureau has published new data detailing migration patterns across the United States for 2024. The release includes state-level statistics on geographic mobility and place of birth, offering insights into how people are moving within the country.

According to the Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.” The newly available State-to-State Migration Flows table provides estimates of the number of individuals relocating between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and those arriving in the United States from abroad.

In addition to tracking migration flows, another table presents estimates on where people currently reside by their place of birth. This information covers residents living in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico.

These statistics are derived from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which collect a range of demographic and housing data annually from households across the nation.

The Census Bureau noted that there is no accompanying news release for this product; it is distributed as a tip sheet only.
